Keane Creative - a 5th floor perspective of the marketing and design industry in Phoenix, AZ

Impressive Free Social Media Guide

We sometimes get a little sick with all the "social media guides" that are out there, just about had a heart attack when the Social Media Bible came out, but this guide developed by 360i is robust, to the point and for the most part without fluff. Certainly check it out if you're having a hard time wrapping your head around everything.

New Client Work - FirstStrategic Before and After

FirstStrategic, a leading public policy firm in Arizona approached Keane a few months ago to assist with their new name and brand. Changing from HGDR to FirstStrategic and armed only with a logo and font choice we developed the new aggressive look and feel managing everything from the company photography to the final layout and development of the website.

Keane Presents at Tempe Chamber of Commerce's Annual Luncheon

Take note, Tempeans (Tempeites? Tempans?) – your Tempe Chamber of Commerce is holding its biggest event of the year next week, the Annual Luncheon. The Chamber fleshed out a more substantial annual event this year, adding a series of break-out discussions after the keynote speakers. Keane – or, more specifically, Russ Perry – will be heading up a session entitled Branding's Amazing Race – Driving Your Brand in Online Circles. a quick talk on effectively incubating and raising brands online. In it, he'll cover the basic differences between traditional visual/experiential brands (those operating in print, broadcast, events) and the new dynamic presented by online channels, user-generated content and social media.

Keane's discussion will be relatively short, devoting more time to Q/A. In this way, participants get a more personal and relevant experience – gleaning tips that can hopefully be applied directly to specific businesses.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at Fiesta Resort and Conference Center. Cost is $50 for TCC members/$65 non-members. And lastly, a quick overview of the schedule:

11:00 Registration and Networking
12:00 Lunch
12:20 Chamber Leadership Report
12:30 Keynote Presentations

  • 21st Century Marketing: John Santiago of Open Rain Elite Web Software
  • E-Sales Secrets: Martin Jones of Cox
  • Finding the Time: Erin Jagodzinski of Express Employment Professionals
1:15 Break-out Sessions
  • Branding's Amazing Races: Russ Perry of Keane Creative
  • The Social Media Craze: Jack Smith of The Social Latte
  • Image is (Still) Everything: Adam Kress of Phoenix Business Journal
  • Marketing Stimulus Plan: Jim Brewer of The Phoenix Zoo
You can also download a pretty informative flyer here, and register here. Looking forward to seeing you in the crowd!

June Contest Winner: Tim Jessup's Poetic Pines

While I was away on vacation, Russ Perry initiated a bon voyage contest to tweet about how much you all miss me. Aww. So cute. Now that I'm back, I've chosen the winner: The Lavidge Co's achey, sorrowful @timjessup, who tweeted several sweetly dripping yearns of honey and desire. You, sir, are hereby awarded a copy of Innovative Designs that Work, distributed by the always illustrious Rockport Publishers. We'll find a way to get that out to you in an expeditious manner.

It's hard to chose just one sweet tweet, and Tim provided several. Among my favorites:

@russ_maloney My heart is melting like those Alaskan glaciers without you. Be my Al Gore and save me. #imissmaloney
@russ_maloney Are you thinking of me in the sea? Do the vast star-filled night skies remind you of the twinkle in my eyes? #imissmaloney

He even linked up John Waite's 1984 classic "Missing You" – icing on the cake, in my opinion.

Honorable mention goes to @dianarothery and our disrespectful dog:

@russ_maloney Holden's been licking himself on your pillow. He misses you, too. #imissmaloney

Thanks so much to all those who participated. Love you back. Keep your eyes peeled for next month's contest!

New Project Management System Inspired by @fortyagency

Project Management seems like one of the largest hurdles in our industry. When timelines span weeks, even months, there's no 100% perfect solution. Factor in having to manage multiple schedules, people, clients and things can really get messy.

After years of solid Basecamp use, I decided to develop a more hands-on approach. During a lunch with the team at Forty Agency we discussed the pitfalls of online project management. All in all it's just too easy to ignore, not check or let tasks and to-dos accumulate. Even though there's robust reminder systems, those are usually in the form of email and are just as easy to forget about.

With that said we're going to simplify things a bit here at Keane.

The photo below is what I would consider the low-fi pre-alpha version of the new system. The basic idea is simple:

 - Clients have an area on the wall. A larger client gets more space.
- Actionable tasks are placed under their name on post-its as they pop into my head.
- The goal is to never let a client's area get full.

There we go, version 0.1. Supplies used: Whiteboard tape + Post-it notes.

I'll report back next week on how things work out, already it's nice to see things split up.

MADCAP and the Design Crisis

We're very excited to see MADCAP Theaters officially launching this weekend. For those of you who don't know MADCAP is a public space designed to help revitalize the Downtown Tempe area with space for live art, performances, music and more.

Always a big supporter of everything Tempe, we just hope the quality of entertainment isn't a direct reflection of their graphic design ability. We're not sure who exactly they are trying to attract to the space, but we guess nothing says a good time like extreme drop shadows and go-go dancer girl clip-art.

New Client Work - DD&F

Today we wrapped up an awesome project for our client, Detail Design and Fabrication (DD&F).

A few months ago the client approached us to develop a new landing page for their current site as well as customize a WordPress blog as a hub for their ongoing social media marketing efforts.

We were excited to help refresh their look and bring their brand into the conversation so many companies are actively engaging in. DD&F is a great example of how a company can leverage their blog as an extension of their site when redoing the main site isn't an option.

Thanks again to Sandy, Shad and the rest of the DD&F team!
